MAAD Group - 310 Harcourt St, Teneriffe

The existing property, a pre-1911 cottage, was diminutive at only 28sqm. The extension to the cottage saw us lift the house up and add over 313sqm, bringing the total space to 341sqm. With the extension, we took care to maintain the cottages charm as well as the streets distinctive character.

Location -

The contemporary home is located in one of Brisbane’s most desirable suburbs – Teneriffe. It is within walking distance to Riverwalk, James Street precinct, Wool Stores, New Farm Park and is less than 3km to the CBD.

Details -

The house enjoys views of Teneriffe Hill, while being wrapped in full privacy from the surrounds. Finishes on the house comprises tactile materials such as blackbutt timber flooring throughout. The four bedrooms, three bathrooms home also features two living areas, cellar/storage room, a 4.6 metre glass bead interior plunge pool, and an expansive outdoor room that becomes an extended living space. Over 13 slabs of handpicked jade coloured quartzite stone have been interwoven throughout the home, including a feature staircase leading to the master bedroom. Over 25 metres of glass skylights are cleverly introduced to both levels of living, maximising light and privacy. Soaring voids and electronic louvres capture river breezes from the nearby Brisbane River, working in harmony to create an internal microclimate for ventilation, providing a sense of occupation akin to that of a traditional Queenslander veranda, in a setting that is truly individual to its time and place.

Design -

Bringing the vision of the newly renovated Harcourt House to life was an exercise in mutual trust between us and Craig Channon – one of Brisbane’s best residential architects who was behind the design. Before starting his own practice Channon Architects, he worked for Donovan Hill. The design has considered the natural environment and created an urban city oasis as it pays homage to the original cottage and streets distinct character.
